|Ralph Hinkley (William Katt) Is The Greatest American Hero...|
I've been revisiting the classic 1980's superhero TV show The Greatest American Hero lately and it got me thinking about superhero costumes and, in particular, the prevalence of capes as an integral motif of the genre.
To the general public, the cape is an iconic part of the superhero look, but in truth they're not as ubiquitous in comics, cartoons, and live-action as people might believe.
The cape is largely a part of the DC Comics look (e.g. Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel and his family, Dr Fate etc etc), whereas the 'young upstarts' at Marvel tend to forego this fashion choice, barring a few notable exceptions (e.g. Dr Strange, The Sentry, Thor).
My question to you is: if you were a superhero would a cape be part of your costume?
I'd also be interested in hearing the reasoning behind your choice and/or your general feelings about capes on superheroes.
