With only three episodes to go, Season Eight finally appears to be recapturing the magic of Supernatural seasons of old.
The Great Escapist is a story with many plot threads, all dovetailing neatly at the end as the show moves towards the big season finale.
Kevin the Prophet is in the hands of Crowley, although (at least at first) he doesn't realise this and is still translating the demon tablet, trying to crack the "third trial" for Sam and Dean.
The Winchesters, however, now believe that Kevin is either dead - or in the hands of Crowley - and so head off, instead, to try and track down Metatron (Curtis Armstrong), the author of the Word Of God tablets.
In the third story strand, Cas is trying to evade Naomi's angels but eventually her brutality brings him to a halt - only then for Crowley to step in and seize the "angel tablet" Cas was guarding.
This was an all-action episode, topped off with some magnificent scenes in the final act of the Winchesters being given a sneak behind the curtain at the machinery that runs the Supernatural universe, courtesy of Metatron.
