|We Have Such Sights To Show You In The Pain Clinic...|
It's been a month since my last "peak behind the curtains", another month of erratic posting (mainly filler, such as film trailers, Wonder Woman pin-ups etc).
I've been quite occupied with health-related stuff. My annual physical MOT at the GP revealed that I am "pre-diabetic" and need to do something serious about reducing my sugar intake to avoid the additional grief of going full diabetic.
So since the start of this month I've been on a major diet, cutting out most of my snacking, going back to regular smoothie making (these green delights - crammed with vegetables and fruit) are now my breakfast staple, seeing me through to lunch (which is usually minimalist). I invariably get a bit peckish late in the afternoon, so a slice of toast is in order, and hopefully that can tide me through to dinner.
Rachel's invested in a book of sugar-free recipes, and we'e picking our way through that quite successfully.
My next blood test is due in September, to see how I'm getting on.
At the start of this week, I went to the "pain clinic" at our local hospital, for an appointment my GP had arranged, to see a specialist and discuss my chronic back pain and other associated aches and twinges.
The takeaway from all this is that I'm now on the waiting list for steroid injections in my lower back.
I should get the date through next month for the procedure, which will be carried out at Maidstone Hospital.
It's not actually the needle going six centimetres into my back that's bothering me, it's - from reading through the documentation - I discovered they'll probably need to put a cannula in my arm as well. That's what's playing merry havoc with my fear of needles.
On a more positive note, the Tuesday Knights have put their heads together to discuss the short-term future of our gaming group.
The Ghostbusters campaign has been shelved/put on the back burner, and Pete has stepped up to revive his Top Secret campaign from 2012 (the one where my character got shot in the head in the last episode!).
The first session of the new campaign is next week, where Erica (who wasn't in the band back then) and I make new characters, as well as anyone else who wants a different character.
